Ron Penrose: Portrait Artist

In 2026 the Portland Arts Centre will host an exhibition of works by southwest Victorian artist, Ron Penrose. Before dedicating more time to painting portraits, Ron was a sheep farmer in rural Victoria. He has been painting full-time since retiring from farming in 2010. Ron has held exhibitions right across the region, including at the Hamilton Gallery. He is passionate about engaging with the community as part of the development for an exhibition. As part of the exhibition here in Portland, Penrose is asking suggestions for subjects for his portraits. He is looking for between 5 and 10 local people, suggested by the community, who will be the subject of a series of portraits.

Those who agree to have their portrait painted will not need to sit for their portrait - Ron will work from a photograph.

All sitters need to be aged 18 or over and agree to have their portrait painted. the Portraits will form part of an exhibition to be shown at the Portland Arts Centre in 2026.

Nominations are open until 10 October.
