Exhibition opening / Friday 29 May / 5:30pm / Portland Arts Centre

The event will begin with a smoking ceremony and a performance by the Fighting Gunditjmara. All Welcome!

In partnership with the Two Rivers Gallery, we are proud to present Jason Walker's first solo exhibition here at the Portland Arts Centre.

Jason's work is a reflection of his powerful connection to Gunditjmara Country. He says,

'I am a proud Gunditjmara and Yorta Yorta man, living and creating on my grandmother’s Country—Gunditjmara Country. I carry the strength of my ancestors, the stories of my people, and the living spirit of Country within me. This is not separate from who I am—this is who I am.

Gunditjmara Country is vast, powerful, and enduring—made up of 59 clan groups, stretching across Bochara, the Wannon and Hopkins Rivers. I belong to the Kerrup-Mara Gunditj clan, and our language group is Dhauwurd Wurrung—language that holds our knowledge, lore, and deep responsibility to Country.

My art is an extension of this responsibility. It is a way of listening, of learning, and of continuing what has always been. Each piece carries the movement of Country—its rivers, winds, and stories—and reflects the unbroken connection between land, sea, and people.

This work is not just visual—it is cultural practice. It is storytelling. It is identity in motion.'

The exhibition is open from Friday 29 May through to Friday 3 July.

The Exhibition opening event is on Friday 29 May at 5:30pm. All are welcome.
